The history of the Enzis
When the Viennese Museumsquartier asked the PPAG architects to develop ideas for the upcoming winter season 2002, Enzi was only the name of the authorized officer responsible for communications at the MQ, Daniela Enzi. She is still in this position. In the meantime she was eponym for the new courtyard furniture.
How did that come? The team of the PPAG architects developed for the winter season completely new glogg stands – made of single elements with the vision to use them also in other combinations or individually. The vision came true. Since 2002 the Enzis are a fix part of the MQ. In winter and in summer. Day and night. And the PPAG architects reinvent them every year. The special geometry enables a lot of different formation types.
Visitors like the Enzis especially in summer. In the most modern cultural area in Vienna you can sit, lie, chill, chat, eat and relax on them. The result: a new life quality and record numbers of visitors. This has made also the restaurants in the MQ more attractive.
Since 2007 the visitors have been asked to vote for the new seasonal colour of the Enzis.

And they can’t get enough. For years PPAG have received a lot of questions why the Enzis are only in the MQ and where they can be bought.
A new mission for PPAG: how to transform the Enzis into popular pieces of furniture for everybody. From the MQ to Austrian cities and villages, to roof terraces and playgrounds. But how to change from 150 individual pieces of furniture to a high quality but affordable product?
The PPAG team did a lot of research. Exclusive design partners or sales experts? Complete outsourcing or internal implementation? PPAG tested different possbilites and found the best solution. Sales, innvation and quality management are realised inhouse. The serial production has been taken over by a family enterprise. With above all handwork and small production series the individual character of the Enzis stays the same. Every Enzi is delivered with an authenticity certificate and a serial number.
In 2010 PPAG developed in cooperation with the designers MN*LS a new family of Enzis: the Enzos: industrial manufactured out of polyethylen, using a Rotomoulding-procedure. The design of the Enzo is a consequence of the new production method. The inversions provide the necessary stiffness. The Material is a lot more robust against vandalismm and not only the production speed, but also the product price could be significantly reduced. The annual renovation are not necessary any more, to allow some colour variations the Enzos showing the most signs of handling are replaced. A subtle colour change is executed. The Enzos are 100% recycable.
In 2011 the family of Softenzis is reissued and a production series of textile Enzis in cooperation with the renowned Viennese crafts enterprise Kohlmaier is being launched.
